UTEP Rifle Hosts TCU in Spring Opener

The UTEP rifle team will face off against No. 1 TCU on Saturday (Jan. 28) at 9 a.m. MT at the UTEP Rifle Range located in the Military Science building. The matches are free and open to the public.

The Miners (4613) surpassed an aggregate of 4600 for the second straight match to conclude the fall slate against Nebraska. The Miners shot season-high scores on the year in both smallbore (2283) and air rifle (2330). Jonna Warnken led the team with a 1163 aggregate while Morgahn Warner followed with a 1161. Warner fired a personal best 590 air rifle. Isabel Brooks recorded two season-highs, 1160 aggregate and 580 in smallbore, just short of her personal record of 581. Warnken also posted two season-highs, 1163 aggregate and 578 in smallbore.
 
Scouting No. 1 TCU
No. 1 TCU remained perfect on the season with another solid effort on the range. Last match against Nebraska, the Horned Frogs fired a team score of 4,744, the fifth highest in program history. The Frogs shot the third-highest mark in air rifle, shooting a 2,389 in addition to a 2,355 in smallbore. TCU turned in five of the top seven marks in smallbore en route to shooting a team score of 2,355. The Frogs posted the top four marks in air rifle and all five shooters fired a 594 or better in the match.
