UTEP Rifle resumes competition in Match with No. 1 TCU Friday

UTEP rifle will host its first home and first Patriot Conference match of the season against No. 1 TCU (CRCA).

“The team has been really excited about coming back to the range,” UTEP Rifle Head Coach Austin Litherland said after seeing the remainder of his team’s Fall 2020 schedule canceled following the Jacksonville State match on Oct. 10, 2020. “We feel lucky to still be competing. We have been putting our best shots forward in preparation for this match with TCU.”

The match is scheduled to start Friday, January 29 at 8 a.m., making it ten days short of a full calendar year since the last time the Miners competed in the UTEP Rifle Range on February 8, 2020. That match was also against the Horned Frogs.

The contest will be streamed live on the UTEP Rifle Facebook page.

In the last Miner-Horned Frog shootout, UTEP eclipsed an aggregate score of 4600 for the second consecutive match and second time of the season.

The 2019-20 UTEP MVP Jonna Warnken fired an aggregate of 1164 while matching her career-best in the air rifle (589). Jennie Windle also put forward an impressive performance with a career-high aggregate of 1142 and a personal-best 564 in smallbore.
