UTEP Rifle Set For Busy Weekend In Colorado

The UTEP rifle team is set to partake in a busy weekend of action in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a triangular match vs. Alaska Fairbanks and Air Force on Friday and the 2018 Patriot Rifle Conference Championships slated for Saturday and Sunday.

The smallbore portion will be held Saturday and air rifle will be on Sunday.

Sophomore Bailey Powell headlines the efforts for the Miners, pacing them in season averages for smallbore (573), air rifle (588) and aggregate (1161).

Freshman Jessica Boyce sports an aggregate average of 1144, including 564 in smallbore and 580 in air rifle. She is coming off a career-high 570 in smallbore against Jacksonville State on Jan. 28.

Sophomore Abby Monique is rounding into form, having fired campaign-high aggregates of 1155 in back-to-back matches on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28. Helping that score was a persona-best 588 last time out vs. Jacksonville State on Jan. 28.

Junior Maranda Nelson enters the weekend with a season aggregate average of 1137, using a 562 average in air rifle and an average of 575 in smallbore.

Sophomore Mara Rouse has a campaign aggregate average of 1135, with a 566 average in smallbore and a 569 average in air rifle. She did not, though, compete in the Miners’ opening weekend of the spring portion of the schedule.

Freshman Samantha Miller carries an average aggregate of 1126 into the action-packed weekend. Last time out vs. Jacksonville State, she matched her career high in air rifle with a score of 578.
