The UTEP rifle team will be heading to Fairbanks, Alaska, this weekend to start off the season against the Alaska Nanooks on Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. MT.
“The team has worked hard at every practice in preparation for the first match,” Head coach Austin Litherland said. “Everyone is feeling confident and in great spirits. We are excited to start the season against Alaska.”

Sophomore Morgahn Warner is the top returner, having posted an average aggregate of 1145 last season. Warner locked in a smallbore career high (581) versus Nevada (10/27) and a career best (585) in air rifle against Ohio State (11/10).
Captain Mara Rouse registered an air rifle average of 578 last season, making her the top returner in that category. She scored an aggregate average of 1144, following Warner with a smallbore average of 566.
Junior Samantha Miller locked down a career-high aggregate of 1152 last season, including a personal record of 587 in air rifle and 567 in smallbore.
Freshmen Isabel Brooks, Amoret McCartney, Jonna Warnken and redshirt freshman Jennie Windle will be joining the team to compete.
The ‘Nooks return Kellen McAferty from last year’s campaign. The junior shot a 590 in air rifle versus the Miners and finished second individually with an 1168 aggregate.
Seniors Amy Gentry (1152) and Grace Nelson (1145) will be coming back to the ‘Nooks to fill in the gap of graduate JT Schnering, who finished first individually in the last competition against the Miners with an aggregate of 1171.
