The UTEP rugby team faced off against their rival, NMSU, Saturday September 30th at University Field. The Miners had a serious challenge in front of them with only one substitute in a 80 minute full contact sport.
The whistle blew and NMSU ran straight in and scored off the kick off. It looked like it was going be a long game, but the Miners where able to hold NMSU 7 – 0 at the half.
The second half started out with heavy hits from both sides. The Miners were able to strike twice making it 7 – 10 without conversions. The Miners then lost 2 players due to injury and would have to play a man down for the rest the game.
The game was tense with 5 minutes to go, but the Miners pulled together and were able score the last try of the game to give the Miners a win 17 – 7.
