UTEP sets dates for two of three Campus Concealed Carry meetings

The first two of three open forums scheduled on campus to gather input on the implementation of S.B. 11 are Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 20 and 21. All members of the UTEP community are invited.

The University of Texas at El Paso Concealed Carry Task Force will consider the feedback as they prepare to recommend policies associated with the Aug. 1, 2016 implementation of the law that will allow concealed handguns on public university campuses.

The task force is charged with identifying campus spaces (i.e., laboratories, child care facilities) where concealed handguns would be excluded; developing policies and communication strategies associated with educating the campus and visitors about the new law; and recommending safety and enforcement practices that will ensure the rights of all campus constituents.

The UT System Board of Regents has final authority in approving all policies associated with implementing the campus concealed carry legislation.

The three community forums are as follows:

October 20, 1:30 pm in the Union Cinema, Union Building East

October 21, noon in the Union Cinema, Union Building East

October 28, 5:30 pm in the Tomas Rivera Conference Center, Union Building East

The campus community is also encouraged to visit the Campus Concealed Carry Task Force website at www.utep.edu/campuscarry and/or email questions and comments to campuscarry@utep.edu.
