UTEP Soccer Begins 2022 Season With Pair of Exhibitions

UTEP soccer kicks off the 2022 season with a pair of exhibitions this week at University Field.

The Miners get things started on Wednesday by hosting former Conference USA affiliate member Colorado College at 7 p.m. before capping off the preseason slate on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Sul Ross State.

Admission to both exhibitions is free.

Wednesday will mark the first opportunity for the home fans to see a new-look UTEP team featuring 15 newcomers, including nine incoming freshmen and six transfers.

Live stats for each UTEP soccer home game will be available on the UTEP SIDEARM Stats Portal. There will be no live stream of either exhibition match this week.

Kathryn Balogun is entering her fourth season as the head coach of the Miners this fall. Four starters are back from last year, including Kristen Prevosto, Cayman Tamez, Vanessa Cabello and Emerson Kidd. The four returning starters will be teaming with 15 new faces, including transfers Alaina Gilbert (UTSA), Elena Reyna (Baylor), Sophia Lewis (Toledo), Justice Tillotson (Michigan State), Tori Paul (Maryland) and Leslie Gutierrez (Heartland CC). Additionally, goalkeeper Mariah Scott (0.82 GAA) impressed over the course of six games and four starts last season, highlighted by a pair of shutouts. After leading the squad with three goals in the spring of 2021, Tessa Carlin is also back after missing last fall due to injury and will look to provide an offensive boost.
