UTEP Soccer Head Coach Kathryn Balogun announced the addition of three freshman to the program Wednesday. Zoe Collyer, Molly Sutherland and Maddie Malone signed their NLI’s and will don the Orange and Blue beginning with the 2021 fall season.
Collyer will travel across the Atlantic Ocean from her hometown Somerset, United Kingdom, to the Sun City and is currently attending Kings of Wessex Academy, SGS College. Sutherland is another international student-athletes making the long distance from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and attends St. Peter’s School. Malone is a product of Placentia, Calif., and will graduate from El Dorado High School.
“Recruiting the 2021 class has been extremely different from anything we have ever experienced before; however, I’m very pleased with how our staff and team has been able to maneuver through this difficult season,” coach Balogun said, heading into her second season. “We are excited to add Maddie, Zoe and Molly all of which have found their way to UTEP in very different means. Maddie was one of our very first commitments as a staff. She took a chance when there was very little actual evidence of who we were as a staff. Zoe and Molly both come to us from overseas who during a pandemic believed we were the next best step in their soccer career. Both of which have high aspirations for playing after college and using UTEP as a place to develop and compete for conference championships.
“Overall coach [Stewart] Givens, our Recruiting Coordinator, and assistant coach Kate Ward, have done a great job in continuing to push forward, building our culture and bring in the best talent we can even while confided to our offices over the last 10 months. This signing day is special just because of the hardships we’ve faced in getting here but also in how well our staff and team has overcome a multitude of obstacles.”

“Zoe comes to us from a top academy in England, Bristol City, and plays in the top development league in the country. She has to compete every week against the best players and teams in the FA WSL Academy League and internationally while representing Wales at the youth national team level. Zoe will help balance our attack being a natural left footed player, and she works extremely hard to get up and down the left side of the field as an outside back or midfielder. We are excited to get Zoe to El Paso and help her achieve her goals as a player and student.”
