UTEP Soccer shut out vs Arizona 2-0

TUCSON – Arizona used a pair of goals during the first half to defeat UTEP, 2-0, on Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.

Arizona (2-0-0) outshot UTEP (0-2-0), 12-3, including 8-1 on shots on goal. The Wildcats outshot the Miners, 7-0, in the first half.

Jill Aguilera netted both goals for the Wildcats. Aguilera’s first came during the 17’ off an assist from Iyana Zimmerman, while her second came on an unassisted kick in the 21’.

Mariah Scott started at goalkeeper and recorded six saves on the afternoon.

UTEP recorded six corner kicks, all during the second half. The Miners also tallied three shots, with a shot on goal by Jackie Soto from outside the box during the 75’. Soto’s attempt was saved by Hope Hisey at the bottom center. Emerson Kidd (49’) and Vic Bohdan (89’) also each tallied a shot.

Kidd, Scott and Cayman Tamez each played 90 minutes.

Up next,  UTEP will open the home portion of its schedule when the Miners host I-10 rival NM State on February 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at University Field.
