The UTEP softball team will host Sul Ross for a double-header starting at Noon, Saturday Oct. 8 at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex. The contests are free admission for fans.
The Miners will also continue fall action on Sunday, Oct. 9, as they will play a doubleheader at NM State starting at 1 p.m.
UTEP is coming off a two-game sweep against Odessa College on Oct. 2 in El Paso. Transfer Mariah Ellis connected on the game-winning RBI, as the Miners rallied to score a pair of runs in the seventh to beat the Wranglers, 5-4.
Taylor Sargent tied the contest with an RBI double, while Allie Johnson fanned seven hitters in 4.0 innings of work. Erika Harrawood earned the victory, hurling 3.0 frames. In the game two, the Miners scored five first-inning runs and piled on seven more in the fourth inning, winning the contest 12-2.
Devyn Cretz earned the victory in a four-inning effort, while striking out five batters and Ellis blasted a line-drive two-run home run during the first inning.
The Miners defeated Sul Ross 10-3 last year behind Cortney Smith’s solo home run. Kaitlin Ryder, Hope Moreno and Sargent each tallied an RBI.
UTEP will finished the fall session with a pair of games against Midland on Oct. 14 starting at 1 p.m. in the Sun City.
