UTEP Softball Falls to Portland State, 4-1 Saturday

The UTEP softball team (5-4) fell to Portland State (6-2) 4-1 on day two of the Littlewood Classic Saturday morning.

The Miners occupied every base early in the top of the first frame and scored the game’s first run. UTEP’s Ashlynn Allen reached on an error by Portland State’s shortstop allowing Karina Somoza to give her squad an early 1-0 edge.

Portland State quickly answered with their own run in the bottom of the first with a single hit to Aalijah Alarcon.

After three quiet innings, a Portland State double in the fifth made way for a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, the Vikings extended the lead with a solo homerun for a 4-1 advantage.

The Miners were unable to pierce through Portland State’s defense for the remainder of the game.
