UTEP Softball to Host Midland, Close Fall Season

The UTEP softball team will host Midland College in a doubleheader at the Helen of Troy Softball Complex to close out the fall session on Oct. 14. The two-game set will start at 2 p.m. and is free admission for fans.

UTEP is coming off a four-game weekend, in which the Miners swept Sul Ross, 9-0 and 16-2, on Oct. 8, while losing a pair of contests, 9-1 and 6-1, at rival NM State on Oct. 9.

Transfer sophomore Mariah Ellis connected on a grand slam, while crossing the dish a trio of times during UTEP’s 9-0 win against Sul Ross. Erika Harrawood earned the win, tossing 4.0 frames and striking out five batters. Kiki Pepi also lined a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Hope Moreno led the charge in the game two 16-2 victory against Sul Ross, as the junior tallied five RBI. Moreno registered a two-run triple and a three double. Cortney Smith added a solo home run in the fifth frame, while Mallorie Cross, Miranda Gutierrez and Lindsey Sokoloski each tallied an RBI during UTEP’s five-run third.

Against NM State, Pepi recorded an RBI double that scored Ellis in game one, while Linda Garcia used a single to score Macey Brown in game two. Allie Johnson started the second contest, hurling 3.0 frames and tallying five Ks.

UTEP swept Midland College last year, 17-3 in game one and 6-5 in the second contest in El Paso.
