UTEP Softball Releases Fall Slate of Games

UTEP softball head coach Tobin Echo-Hawk announced the 2017 UTEP softball fall schedule on Thursday. All eight games will be played at Helen of Troy Softball Complex and are free for all fans.

The Miners will open against Midland on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. in a single contest and will then host I-10 rival and 2017 NCAA Tournament participant NM State on Oct. 1 in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

The following Sunday (Oct. 8), UTEP will take on El Paso Community College at 1 p.m. UTEP will then host Howard on Friday, Oct. 20 in a two-game set starting at 4 p.m. and will wrap up the fall season with a doubleheader against Odessa on Oct. 21 starting at 1 p.m.

The UTEP football team will have its bye week during softball’s final weekend of fall action.

Echo-Hawk will have the opportunity to assess her eight newcomers during the eight-game slate.

UTEP fans will see five freshmen in INF Brianna Hill (Lincoln High School in Portland, Ore.), INF Teiya Mauga (Mira Mesa High School [Tucson, Ariz.]), OF Jordyn Quevedo (Canyon del Oro High School [Tucson, Ariz.]), INF Ilena Santos (Canyon del Oro High School [Tucson, Ariz.]) and local high school star INF Ariana Valles (Chapin High School). The trio of junior transfers include INF Kacey Duffield (Indian Hills Community College), and pitchers Kira McKechnie (Fresno State) and Julia Wright (Ranger College).

Newly hired pitching coach Erika Bennett will also get a first look at her pitching staff which includes sophomores Devyn Cretz and Allie Johnson.
