UTEP and WKU split the series Saturday afternoon as the Hilltoppers whipped up a 14-7 win over the Miners in game two at Helen of Troy Field.

The Tops outhit the Miners, 10:9, but thrived on their program records’ 16 earned walks.
UTEP gained an early 2-0 lead in the first frame. Ajia Richard plated Lexi Morales – who hit a lead-off double – off a sac-fly. Caitlyn Brockway followed with a bunt-single to score Savannah Favre from third.
WKU replied with three runs on one hit in the second inning. Randi Drinnon’s RBI-double tacked on the first hit for the Hilltoppers. With bases loaded, UTEP gave up a walk to tie up the game and an RBI fielder’s choice to the shortstop to give WKU the 3-2 lead.
The Tops produced an eight-run third inning for the 11-2 lead. UTEP closed the gap down to six runs, 11-5, as Anna Sample ‘s fielder’s choice brought in Richard from third and Ashlynn Allen swatted a double to left field sending Sample and Rylan Dooner home.
UTEP’s final runs came about in the fourth inning as Richard doubled down the left field line to plate Peyton Angulo and Lexi Morales, shrinking the deficit, 11-7.
After a full scoreless inning in the fifth, WKU racked up three more runs over the next two innings to secure the 14-7 win.
