UTEP Softball’s Cathey, Morales Selected to C-USA All-Academic Team

UTEP softball’s redshirt junior infielder Pate Cathey and sophomore outfielder Lexi Morales garnered Conference USA All-Academic Team plaudits, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Morales was selected for the first time in her career and Cathey notched her second all-academic accolade after appearing on the 11-member squad in 2021.

Pate Cathey is a kinesiology student who has managed a 3.90 GPA and received previous conference academic honors including being a C-USA Honor Roll honoree and Commissioner Academic Medal recipient. On the field, the second-baseman holds a .959 fielding percentage with a team second-best of 79 assists, 83 putouts and 169 catches. With a bat, she holds the team-high of 25 RBI, nine doubles and 61 total bases with a .270 batting average, and 16 runs over the 49 games on the Miners schedule.

Joining Cathey is Lexi Morales who also received both the C-USA Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Academic Medal this year while holding a 3.92 GPA in forensic science. Morales has played in all 49 of the Miners’ games this season and leads the squad with a .294 overall batting average and 23 runs. She has drawn the most walks (26) for the Miners and ended the regular season with 136 at bats and 16 RBI with three home runs. The outfielder holds a .961 fielding percentage and tallied 73 putouts.
