UTEP softball player Courtney Clayton was announced to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2015-16 Softball Team on Friday.
The sophomore infielder was named to the District 7 team, as the Cornelius, Ore., native has posted a 3.92 GPA in Health Promotion.
The honor is one of multiple academic achievements, as Clayton was recently named as a Conference USA Academic Medalist for the second consecutive year, along with making the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor for a second straight time. Clayton was also recognized as a 2014-15 NFCA Scholar-Athlete back in September.
Besides going strong in the classroom, Clayton has also dominated the playing field, as she ranks in the top 10 in multiple offensive categories in C-USA. She recently broke the program single-season record for hits (74) and doubles (20). Clayton ranks no. 2 in C-USA with her .431 batting average, while belting out seven home runs with 34 RBI and 43 runs scored. Clayton is hitting an outstanding .494 in C-USA games only.
Clayton and the Miners will take on Southern Miss to finish out the regular season on May 7-8 in Hattiesburg.
