UTEP junior Pamala Baber, a member of the Miner softball team, was named one of 14 recipients of Conference USA Spirit of Service Awards for spring sports on Thursday.
A native of Rialto, California, Baber is majoring in Health Promotions with a minor in Nutrition and sports a 3.76 grade point average. She completed over 30 community service hours this year, including working with the Miracle League, the Ronald McDonald House and Special Olympics.
Baber is a two-time Conference USA Academic Medalist (minimum 3.75 GPA) and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll (minimum 3.0 GPA). She is also a former NFCA Scholar Athlete.
On the field, the utility player is a career .249 hitter with seven home runs and 37 RBI. She was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week on Feb. 26, 2018.
The award honors the league’s student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, excellent academic standing and notable athletic achievements.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times during the athletic year.
