UTEP Student-Athletes Aiming to “SAAC” Hunger

UTEP’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will once again participate in the annual SAAC Hunger Food Drive, along with 13 other Conference USA schools.

Last year UTEP collected a league-leading 26,000 pounds of food.

UTEP’s campus drive will take place Oct. 30-Nov. 5.  Non-perishable food items can be donated to the Brumbelow Building, 201 Glory Road next to the Don Haskins Center, or to the Life Skills office, Room 122 in the Larry K. Durham Center, next to the Sun Bowl.

UTEP will also be taking donations at the following athletic events: men’s basketball vs. Southeastern Oklahoma State (Oct. 30, 1 p.m.), volleyball vs. UTRGV (Nov. 3, 6:30 p.m.), volleyball vs. FIU (Nov. 4, 6:30 p.m.), women’s basketball vs. St. Mary’s [Texas] (Nov. 4, 7 p.m.), men’s basketball vs. Alaska Fairbanks (Nov. 5, 1 p.m.) and football vs. Houston Baptist (Nov. 5, 6 p.m.).

Fans can get in free to the Nov. 4 volleyball match by bringing a non-perishable food item.

Let’s SAAC Hunger is a Conference USA Initiative whose goal is to raise awareness about hunger in our communities and to solve this problem by collecting canned foods and donations.

Each school works within its respective community to conduct a campus‐wide canned food drive for one week during the fall semester.  C-USA also partners with YouGiveGoods, a for-profit company that facilitates online food drives.  This partnership allows C-USA student-athletes to reach a much larger audience, encouraging all student groups and alumni to participate.  Each institution selects a local food bank to receive its donations.

UTEP’s goal is to accumulate 20,000 pounds of food.  Donations will be made to the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.
