The UTEP women’s tennis team will have a new face in the upcoming season. Head coach Ivan Fernandez announced the addition of Chloe Purkiss to the tennis roster.
“I am really excited to have Chloe join us,” Fernandez said. “She has had to overcome a lot of adversity in the last few years, but she has persevered and fought extremely hard to get her tennis and her body back in peak form to be ready to play Division I tennis. That kind of heart and determination is exactly what I look for in a player to represent UTEP Tennis. I know that with her ‘never give up’ mentality, she will be a great addition to our program and will have an immediate impact on our team.”
Purkiss, who will join the team in January after her high school graduation in November, will be the fourth freshman signed under Fernandez’s helm. The Adelaide, Australia native has been ranked in the top-200s in all of Australia and has a tournament win, the Hervey Bay Championships, under her belt.
The right-hander has also been a finalist at the Head Queensland State Age and the Redcliffe Open and has participated in five other tournaments in Australia.
