ARLINGTON, Texas – UTEP tennis’ Vivienne Kulicke advanced to the semifinals after winning a pair of singles matches during the second day at the Midland Invitational on Saturday.
Kulicke, ranked no. 101 in the women’s national singles rankings, defeated Texas Tech’s Lynn Kiro, 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16, followed by a hard-fought victory against North Texas’ Maria Kononova, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Kulikce will advance to the semis to take on no. 122 Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech on Sunday.
In doubles action, Kulicke and Milou Pietersz registered an 8-5 victory against Abilene Christian’s Ansley Boarman and Lucile Pothier in the round of 16.
UTEP’s duo advanced to play Texas Tech’s Katelyn Jackson and Lynn Kiro in the quarterfinals on Saturday, but the match will be resumed on Sunday due to rain with the Red Raider pair up 4-2.
