The UTEP tennis team came out firing and racked up a 4-0 record on the opening day of the USTA/ITA Mountain Regionals Wednesday hosted by New Mexico.
The Miners advanced all four of their singles players to Thursday’s round of 64. Milou Pietersz dispatched of Weber State’s Devi Hasan, 6-0, 6-1. Lois Wagenvoort registered a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jessica Brycki of Montana State, while Raven Bennett also won in straight sets, knocking off Weber State’s Morgan Dickason, 7-5, 6-3. Vivienne Kulicke had a bye for the first round of singles.
In doubles action, Raven Bennett and Lois Wagenvoort topped Montana State’s duo of Brycki and Laura Mary, 8-1, while Pietersz and Kulicke had a bye in the first round of doubles.
Action will continue on Thursday with doubles competition starting at 9 a.m. MT followed by singles.
