UTEP Tennis Falls To Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla.- The UTEP women’s tennis team fell to Oklahoma 6-1 this afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
Miner junior Milou Pietersz was the lone UTEP player to grab a win in singles play against the Sooners, taking down Mimi Fotopoulos 1-6 (6-10), 6-4, 1-0.
Vivienne Kulicke suffered her first loss of the year, losing to Intercollegiate Tennis Association No. 10 ranked Lily Miyazaki 6-1, 6-2. Lois Wagenvoort was defeated by Serena Nash of the Sooners 6-2, 6-1 and Daphne Visscher fell to Oklahoma’s Marlene Stripp 6-4, 6-4. Maria Paula Medina and Raven Bennett lost to their Sooner opponents.
In doubles action, Miner duo Visscher and Bennett grabbed a win against Oklahoma’s Serena Nash and Mimi Fotopoulos 6-3. Kulicke and Pietersz were defeated by Oklahoma’s top doubles team in Miyazaki and Julie Byrne 6-3. Duda Santos and Wagenvoort fell to Oklahoma 6-3.
The Miners will travel to Arlington, Texas to take on UT Arlington on Monday. First serve is 10 a.m. MT.
