The brackets for the 2016 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championships have been set, and No. 10 seeded UTEP (11-10, 2-1 C-USA) will square off with No. 7 Southern Miss (16-3-1, 0-0 C-USA) in the first round of action on Thursday at 9 a.m. (CT).
UTEP last played Southern Miss last season (3/29/15) in Hattiesburg, Miss. and came away with a 4-2 win over the Golden Eagles.
Hosted by Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Center, the single-elimination tournament will span from the opening round on Thursday to the Championship match-up on Sunday.
If the Miners advance, they will face No. 2 seeded Rice (10-9, 2-0 C-USA) in the second round scheduled forFriday at 10 a.m. (CT). The Owls are ranked No. 41 on the ITA National Rankings as of April 12.
Vivienne Kulicke has played exceptionally well at the No. 1 spot, as she is currently 15-4 and ranked No. 122 on the ITA national rankings.
Lois Wagenvoort follows in suit at 8-10 playing mostly at No. 2 singles, while Duda Santos is 6-3 at No. 3.
On the doubles side, UTEP’s duo of Kulicke and Duda Santos leads the squad with a 7-8 record at No. 1 doubles.
