UTEP Tennis Team Named ITA All-Academic Team
For the fourth consecutive year, the UTEP tennis team has been named an ITA All-Academic Team.
Additionally, five members (Rine Nozaki, Kathleen Percegona, Kirsten Prelle, Vanessa Valdez and Yvette Van Oijen) of the 2018-19 Miner team secured ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
“I’m very proud of the team and the individual award winners,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “It is very difficult to combine academics with their sport, but this team showed dramatic improvements again on both fronts. They represent UTEP Athletics with class and pride.”
The Miners produced a cumulative team GPA of 3.55 during the 2018-19 scholastic year. It marked the top GPA by any UTEP team in 2018-19 and easily surpassed the ITA’s minimum standard of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) to qualify for the award.
ITA Scholar-Athlete recipients need to be a letter winner, boast a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the academic year and have been enrolled at the institution for a minimum of two semesters.
