UTEP Tennis To Play Three Matches In Las Vegas This Weekend
The UTEP tennis team will play three matches in as many days in Las Vegas this weekend.
The Miners (1-2) will compete at UNLV (0-0) Friday before challenging Weber State (1-0) Saturday and Youngstown State (0-1) Sunday. All of the matches will begin at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MT.
It marks the fourth consecutive campaign that the Orange and Blue will have dual matches in Las Vegas.
“We have been looking forward to this Las Vegas trip since we started practicing this semester,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “We really feel like the matches vs. Texas Tech and Arizona have really prepared us for these three matches. The team is ready to face some very good competition this weekend, and I know we will go out there and play with heart and intensity.”
UTEP is 1-2 on the season, but those losses have come against power conference programs Texas Tech and Arizona, as Fernandez alluded to. The Miners did experience some success in those matches, most notably Carlotta Mencaglia and Kathleen Percegona teaming up to claim a victory at the No. 3 doubles points.
In UTEP’s other contest of the season it took care of business against Western New Mexico, 7-0, on Jan. 23.
Six different Miners have tasted victory in singles play in the spring, while a trio of pairings have done so in doubles action. Mencaglia and Percegona are undefeated (2-0) as a tandem.
