“It’s great to be playing at home again at the El Paso Tennis Club,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “We always want to play well at home, so we are looking to come out with a lot of energy and determination.”

The Orange and Blue are coming off a 5-1 season-opening setback at Pacific-12 foe Arizona on Jan. 15, a match in which they showed fight and promise for the remaining spring campaign to come. Nowhere more was that evident than in doubles action, where the Miners won two of three matches to take the point and the early lead in the contest.

Eve Daniels and Carlotta Mencaglia teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Paloma Hennicaux and Elena Dibattista followed suit with a victory by the identical score at No. 3 doubles. Daniels and Mencaglia now share the top spot for most doubles victories on the campaign with two other Miner (Thassane Abrahim / Lebisova and Dibattista/Szczepanska) pairings at six.

The Miners still have plenty of potential in singles play, with Lebisova (five wins) and Abrahim and Mencaglia at four victories all having produced at least four triumphs in the fall. Furthermore, Lebisova was ahead in the third set of her match at Arizona when it was halted due to rain.

The Miners will have a quick turnaround following the match-up with the Mustangs, playing at BIG-12 member Texas Tech at 2 p.m. MT on Sunday.
