UTEP track and field stars Arianne Morais (women’s javelin) and Jevaughn Powell (men’s 400m) will represent the Orange and Blue at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on June 8-11 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
“We are proud of our student-athletes who had an opportunity to compete here,” UTEP Head Coach Mika Laaksonen said. “Both teams competed well, achieving multiple season-best performances here. I was happy to see Arianne and Jevaughn advance to the final round in Eugene, Oregon, and competing at historic Hayward Field.”

Powell raced out to a personal-best 44.87 in the 400-meter dash at the West Prelims, finishing first in Heat 3 and clocking in the second-best time at the meet in Fayetteville, Ark.
This will mark Powell’s second trip to Eugene after the sophomore sensation ran with the 4×400-meter relay team. The Miners will also have a student-athlete compete in the 400 for a second consecutive season in Eugene after Sean Bailey did so last year.
Morais, a sophomore transfer from the University of Florida, punched her ticket to Track Town, USA, for the first time in her collegiate career after a top-10 finish at the West Prelims in Arkansas. She hurled a personal best at UTEP with a 51.04-meter (167-5) mark on her third and final attempt. Her collegiate best was a 55.13-meter (180-10) mark at the 2021 Tom Jones Memorial while at Florida.
