UTEP to honor 2020 Gold Nuggets, Distinguished Alumni in person in 2021

Friday afternoon, UTEP officials announced that due to the postponement of all 2020 Homecoming events, The University of Texas at El Paso will showcase the 2020 Distinguished Alumni and Gold Nugget Award recipients in person next year, in lieu of selecting new awardees for UTEP’s 2021 Homecoming.

“Public health conditions do not support a plan to host the celebrations in the traditional way,” said Maribel Villalva, assistant vice president for alumni and donor engagement.

“We will miss seeing our students and alumni back on campus this fall, we look forward to celebrating our alumni and enjoying Homecoming fully in 2021.

Celebrating the University’s Gold Nuggets and Distinguished Alumni is a tradition during UTEP’s Homecoming, providing honorees with opportunities to share their experiences with new generations of students, fellow alumni and the greater UTEP community.

Homecoming organizers made the decision to postpone 2020 events in an effort to protect the health and safety of the UTEP community and the alumni who would have come to campus for Homecoming activities.

Planning for next year’s Homecoming events will begin in late spring
