UTEP Track & Field completes first day at the Don Kirby Elite
ALBUQUERQUE – The UTEP track and field team produced another successful effort on the first day at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational hosted by New Mexico in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Thursday afternoon.
Karol Koncos highlighted the day as the junior set a personal best in the men’s weight throw, tossing a 20.56m mark and placing first. Benjamin Coronado also set a personal best, recording a 16.25m mark.
Yasmine George clocked a personal-best 56.88 in the women’s 400m, placing 11th.
Madison Gibson ran a personal-best in the women’s 200m, clocking in a 24.69. Geraldy Barron (25.78) and Natalia Roberts (26.31) also posted a personal-bests in the 200m.
Boaz Ronoh recorded an 8:44.65 in the men’s 3000m, finishing fifth.
El Paso native Keith Rodriguez registered a personal-best 4.62 in the men’s pole vault, placing fifth.
A pair of throwers set personal marks in the women’s weight throw. Samantha Cordier posted an 18.05m mark, finishing 10th place, while Sah-Jay Stevens recorded a 17.13m.
Friday’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m. MT with the men’s and women’s shot put. The final day will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with the women’s 4x400m relay.
