UTEP’s Tommy McCoy#271 and Yinka Oyebanjo-Odofin competing in the Men’s 400m Hurdle
The UTEP track and field team will head to Austin, Texas, for the 89th edition of the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. More than 7,500 from around the country and around the world will compete in the four-day meet that begins Wednesday and ends Saturday.
UTEP will send 22 athletes (12 women and 10 men) to compete against some of the toughest competition in the nation at the Mike A. Myers Stadium. The meet will have 14 hours of coverage during the four-day event on the Longhorn Network (schedule listed at the bottom).
Sophomore Lucia Mokrasova will compete in her first career heptathlon for the Orange and Blue. Mokrasova is already the school record holder in the pentathlon (indoor version of heptathlon); she will be in action Wednesday and Thursday.
Rasmus Maukonen will look to dominate the javelin throw Friday evening. His throw of 73.64m (241-07) at the UTEP Springtime has him ranked eighth in the country.
Two-time All American Jonah Koech will have his first go at the 800m race for the 2016 outdoor slate on Thursday and he will run the mile on Saturday. Both races Koech will compete in are part of the Invitational portion of the meet, which is for the elite runners, including professionals.
Yanique Bennett, the 2015 NJCAA 400m hurdle national champion, will run in the 400m hurdles alongside Dreshanae Rolle on Thursday afternoon. On the men’s side, Tommy McCoy will run in the 400m hurdles as well.
The distance contingent of Cosmas Boit (1,500m run), Daniel Cheruiyot (3,000m steeplechase), Gladys Jerotich (5,000m) and Winny Koech (5,000m) will all spring into action Thursday evening.
The triumvirate of Tobi Amusan (ranked No. 5 in the world), Bria Love and Brittney Trought will all run in the 100m hurdle prelims Friday morning. From the men’s side, Sven Zellner will run his second 100m hurdles race of the season as well.
