Maribel Caicedo came up short in the women’s 100-meter hurdles quarterfinals, placing 17th as the UTEP track and field team wrapped up its appearance at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminaries hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field on a bright and sunny Saturday afternoon.
Caicedo clocked in a season-best 13.10 (+2.8), finishing fifth in Heat 2. All 12 competitors who advanced to the championships posted times under 12.99. Texas A&M’s Kaylah Robinson finished first overall with a time of 12.57.
QUICK RECAP OF THE NCAA QUALIFIERS
Jevaughn Powell (men’s 400m) and Arianne Morais (women’s javelin) will represent the Orange and Blue at the NCAA National Championships on June 8-11 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
This will mark Powell’s second trip to Eugene after the sophomore sensation ran with the 4×400-meter relay team. The Miners will also have a student-athlete compete in the 400 for a second consecutive season in Eugene after Sean Bailey did so last year.
Morais, a sophomore transfer from the University of Florida, punched her ticket to Track Town, USA, for the first time in her collegiate career.
“We are proud of our student-athletes who had an opportunity to compete here,” UTEP Head Coach Mika Laaksonen said. “Both teams competed well, achieving multiple season-best performances here. I was happy to see Arianne and Jevaughn advance to the final round in Eugene, Oregon, and competing at historic Hayward Field.”
