UTEP unveils new mobile engineering and computer lab in partnership with Marathon Petroleum

University of Texas at El Paso President Heather Wilson and leaders from the UTEP College of Engineering held a news conference in the Sun Bowl Stadium to unveil the Discover-E Mobile Engineering and Computer Lab.

The mobile lab is the result of a new partnership between the University and Marathon Petroleum. Marathon executives were also present for the unveiling.

The Discover-E Mobile Engineering and Computer Lab is a fully outfitted, 24-foot, cargo trailer that will be part of the existing Engineering Ambassador and ExciTES Summer Institute programs.

The lab will travel to more than 15 events across Region 19 with the goal of teaching students and teachers innovative engineering concepts and their application in the real world.

In addition to deploying STEM outreach, the Discover-E Mobile Engineering and Computer Lab will benefit K-12 students across the Paso del Norte region by offering them an opportunity to acquire soft skills such as teamwork, resourcefulness and creative thinking through workshops.

Students will also be able to gain a deeper understanding of the various engineering disciplines and career pathways in the STEM fields.
