UTEP Volleyball begins season on the road

The UTEP volleyball team will be traveling to Lafayette, La., to play three matches against Tulane, Louisiana and UIW at the I-10 Challenge Friday through Saturday.

The Miners will take on Tulane on Friday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. MT. Later that day UTEP will play Louisiana at 5:50 p.m. MT. the Orange and Blue will play UIW to cap off the I-10 Challenge on Saturday at 9 a.m. MT.

All matches can be followed via live stats on statbroadcast.com, and the match versus Louisiana will be live streamed on the Ragin’ Cajun stream service.

Tulane is coming off of a 29-9 season, and is led by returning junior Lexie Douglas, who paced the squad in kills (352). Sophomore Taylor Henigsman is the returning setter with 819 assists, and Yvette Burcescu totaled 98 blocks. The Green Wave leads the all-time series 14-4 over the Miners.

The Ragin’ Cajuns finished 15-15 in 2018. They return 2019 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team selection Hali Wisnoskie, who produced 331 kills last year.

UTEP and Louisiana are all knotted up at one victory apiece in the all-time series.

UIW posted a 10-17 mark to end last season. It returns Bethany Clapp, who registered a team-high 324 kills. She is also the returning leader in digs (190). The Miners maintain a perfect, 4-0, record against the Cardinals all-time.

The Miners went 1-2 last season at the Tulane I-10 Challenge. They served up the 2018 campaign with a victory over UIW (3-1), and then fell to Tulane (3-0) and Louisiana (3-1).
