UTEP Volleyball ends Fall Preseason with Doubleheader Split

UTEP Volleyball (2-2) defeated Angelo State (0-0) in four sets (18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-13), 3-1, in Saturday’s first match. The Miners dropped the second contest against the Rambelles (23-25, 22-25, 22-25), 0-3.

Freshman Ava Palm matched her career-high 13 kills set in UTEP’s last scrimmage against Stephen F. Austin in Denton, Texas, on Oct. 13, in match one.

The highlight of Palm’s first-match performance was a stretch of three consecutive service aces to set the Miners up for a match-winning fourth set.

Junior Serena Patterson and sophomore Alianza Darley combined for 20 kills, notching 12 and eight, respectively, to add to the UTEP offense.

Junior Kristen Fritsche and sophomore Sophia Chacon enabled the Miner scoring attack with 19 and 14 set assists, respectively.

Freshman Alyssa Sianez took over the majority of libero duties in UTEP’s second match, registering 17 digs in only three sets.
