LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTEP volleyball team fell to NM State on Thursday at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M. in continuation of the spring schedule.
The teams played an unofficial four-set match, regardless of frame outcome, but ultimately dropped the match, 0-4.
“Everyone who is healthy got to play and our main focus in this match was communication and focus,” head coach Holly Watts said. “Our effort was good and that showed in a lot of longer rallies with multiple digs and blocks. Our communication was inconsistent and it is necessary because when we communicate well, we play well.”
The Miners competed against the Aggies twice during the 2015 fall season but the WAC champions topped UTEP in both match-ups. UTEP also faced a tight battle versus NM State last weekend at the Arizona spring tournament but the Aggies picked up a two-set victory over the Orange and Blue.
“We hope to have more players near 100 percent health next weekend when we host our tournament,” Watts said.
UTEP Volleyball will host a tournament in the Don Haskins Center on April 16 that will begin at 10 a.m. MT and will conclude at 5 p.m. Participants of the tournament include Sul Ross, Western New Mexico, East Arizona College, UTPB, NM State and New Mexico Military Institute.
