UTEP volleyball coach Holly Watts announced the signing of Amanda King, a setter from Boyton Beach, Fla. and Macey Austin, an outside hitter from Keller, Texas, to join the squad at the start of the 2016 season.
King comes to UTEP out of Palm Beach State College, where she started at the setter position as a sophomore. The transfer played in all 33 matches for the Panthers in 2014. As a sophomore, she led the team in assists (350) and service aces (41) while adding 217 digs, 167 kills, and 77 blocks. The setter registered nine double-doubles with a career-best 21 assists and 11 digs versus Broward (8/26/14).
King was honored to First Team All-Conference for her outstanding season in 2014.
“Amanda will bring additional experience to our setting position,” said head coach Holly Watts. “She fell in love with El Paso and our campus on her recruiting visit. She is now ready to take on the challenge set before her.”
Austin is an outside hitter from Fort Worth Christian High School. Massey was named to the District 1-4A All-District First Team from 2013-2014 while earning all-state honorable mention honors in 2013. The Keller, Texas native, was a member of the TAPPS Class 4A All-State first team as well as the TAPPS All-State Academic First Team in 2014. She concluded her senior season leading the region in kills (739) and service aces (91), while finishing third in digs (397), fourth in hitting percentage (.287) and fifth in blocks (44).
“Macey will have the ability and opportunity to immediately contribute to our offense,” said Watts. “With her fast arm and versatility, she can attack from either side of the net.”
