Peoria, Ill.- UTEP got its first sweep of the 2015 season against Bradley in its final game of the Bradley Invitational Saturday at the Renaissance Coliseum. The Miners won 3-0 by scores of 32-30, 25-19 and 25-17.
Junior Lindsey Larson guided her team handing out 34 assists and 12 digs registering her 10th double-double of the season. Sophomore Coline Coessens led the offense with 15 kills and 15 digs. The outside hitter now has seven double-doubles in 2015.
Senior Talia Jones and Sophomore Dalainee Perry both notched nine kills while Sarah Villa led all players with 23 digs.
The thrilling first set had 17 tied scores and nine lead changes. Both teams fought point-for-point but the Miners took the set 32-30 with the help of seven kills and six digs from Coessens. Larson tallied 18 assists and six digs while Villa added 10 digs.
Fueled by the opening-frame victory, UTEP wasted no time getting an early advantage in the second set. The Orange and Blue led 15-5 before the Braves could pick up momentum. The early advantage allowed the Miners to come out with a 25-19 win in the second set.
The third stanza started off similar to the first before the Miners were able to put a buffer between themselves and the Braves at 21-14. UTEP continued its pace and ultimately claimed the set 25-17 and the match 3-0 to register their first sweep of the season.
The Miners will open conference play on the road on Monday at 4 p.m.in Charlotte, N.C. against the Charlotte 49ers in Halton Arena.
