UTEP Volleyball’s Macey Austin Receives C-USA Spirt of Service Award

IRVING, Texas – For her efforts on and off the court, UTEP volleyball’s Macey Austin was named one of 14 Conference USA athletes receiving the 2017-18 Fall C-USA Spirit of Service award, the league announced on Tuesday.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with today’s honorees representing fall sports: football, men’s & women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball.

“Receiving this award is an honor because it is satisfying to know that my hard work is recognized and that it reflects the city of El Paso and how involved UTEP Athletics is in working in and with the community,” Austin said.

Austin totaled 21.75 service hours this semester, which included contributing time with the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso, UTEP Volleyball Camp and the Game Change Volleyball Camps.

The sophomore led the Miners in kills with 359 and had 27 total blocks, 18 matches with double-digit kills and four matches with 20 or more kills this past season. She ranks third in UTEP’s all-time individual for kills with 639 and has maintained a 3.91 GPA in kinesiology with a minor in psychology, the highest on the team.

“As a student-athlete, I have been very blessed,” Austin said. “I’m honored to give back to UTEP and its community.”
