UTEP Wellness Manager Eileen Aguilar will be honored with the 2016 David C. Wiley Award from the Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy for her efforts to promote adolescent pregnancy prevention in the community.
Aguilar is a member of the El Paso Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition, serving as both the coalition chair and education chair during the past five years. She is a health promotion expert who has dedicated herself to promoting sexual health and sexually transmitted infections prevention to help youth transform into healthy, contributing members of the El Paso community.
In 2015, Aguilar started the Healthy Miners Sex Positive Peer Education Program at UTEP. The goal of the program is to promote positive sexual health and give students the information they need to make informed choices about how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The David C. Wiley Award was created to recognize exceptional individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the field of teen pregnancy prevention in Texas through service, leadership, advocacy or research.
The award will be presented at the Texas campaign’s 5th annual symposium on Tuesday, April 12 in Austin, Texas.
