UTEP Women’s Cross Country Team Claims First at Lobo Invitational

Albuquerque – The UTEP women’s cross country team opened the season with a first-place victory at the Lobo Invitational on Saturday.

The women finished first, second, third and fourth to secure a team score of 24 points. Leading the way was All-American Winny Koech posting a time of 17:42.7, followed by senior Lilian Koech clocking in at 17:57.3.

Closely behind Koech was junior Linda Cheruiyot with a time of 17:58.8 and sophomore Carolyne Chepkosgei with a personal best of 18:05.9. Rounding out the women’s team was sophomore Destiny White.

Leading the way for the men’s team is sophomore Cornelius Kapel with a seventh-place finish with a time of 16:00.3. Freshman Boaz Ronoh followed with an eighth-place showing with a time of 16:07.4.

Senior Antony Kosgei clocked in a time of 16:25.1 to finish 13th overall.

The Miners will co-host the Lori Fitzgerald Open on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Las Cruces, N.M
