UTEP Women’s Golf Builds Commanding Lead at Arkansas Tourney

JONESBORO, ARK. — The UTEP women’s golf team has continued its exceptional start to the 2016-17 season, as the Miners have a big lead heading into the third and final round of the Lady Redwolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Miners, who have finished second at two of their first three fall tournaments, top the eight-team field by 19 strokes heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes.  UTEP put together solid rounds of 293 and 299 on Monday for a total of 592.

Host Arkansas State is in second place (308-303-611), with Arkansas-Little Rock in third (302-311-613).

UTEP has three players listed in the top-five of the individual standings, headed by Lily Downs who is in first place with a two-under-par 142 (71-71).  June Ting (74-76-150) and Sofia Castiello (75-75-150) are tied for fifth place.

Crystal Wu is tied for ninth place (73-79-152), and Alisa Rodriguez is tied for 21st place (79-77-156) as UTEP is seeking its first tournament championship since 2011.
