UTEP Women’s Golf Caps Fall Season With Third-Place Finish

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ar – The UTEP women’s golf team wrapped up its fall season with another top-three finish on Tuesday, as the Miners took third at the Little Rock Classic.

“Our team played well during the fall schedule and we just ran out of gas towards the end here,” UTEP head coach Jere Pelletier said. “I’m proud of the way the team played today. Lily Downs has been playing consistent at each tournament this year.”

UTEP ended up five strokes behind champion Central Arkansas. The Miners shot rounds of 297-304-301 for a total of 902.

Senior Lily Downs led the team, finishing in ninth place shooting a five-over par 221 (70-74-77). Valeria Mendizabal (74-78-73-225) earned a 15th place showing. Shannon O’Dwyer (77-75-75-227) finished tied for 16th overall.

Rounding out the UTEP competitors were Abbie Anghelescu, who tied for 30th place (77-77-76-230), and Audrey Haddad, who tied for 72nd overall (76-81-84-241).

WKU’s Megan Clarke was the individual winner with a four-under par 212. A total 16 teams participated in the tournament.

The Miners won three consecutive tournaments and added a second-place and third-place finish over five events. They’ll open their spring slate at the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 11-12.
