UTEP’s Women’s Golf team continues its fall campaign this week when the Miners make the short trip to Las Cruces to compete in the Aggie Invitational beginning on Monday.
The Miners will compete in the 54-hole event on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the New Mexico State Aggies serving as the hosts for this week’s invitational.
The 2019 Aggie Invitational is made up of a 17-team field for the three-day event.
The tournament will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on all three days. The Aggie Invitational will be held at the NM State Golf Course, which is a 72-par, 6,368-yard course in Las Cruces.
UTEP will play 18 holes on each day.
UTEP will send eight golfers to this week’s event, including Valeria Mendizabal Riepele (Jr., Guatemala City, Guatemala), Audrey Haddad (Jr., Geneva, Switzerland), Abbie Anghelescu (Sr., Wolfe Island, Ontario), Sophie Delfosse (Fr., Valenciennes, France), Shannon O’Dwyer (Sr., Hartlepool, Durham, U.K.), Taylor Stone (Jr., Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Naomie Ramirez (So., Ciudad Juarez, Mexico) and Andrea Ostos (R-Fr., Chihuahua, Mexico).
In addition to the Aggies and Miners, the rest of this week’s field includes Cal Baptist, CSU-Bakersfield, Northern Arizona, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UC Irvine, Incarnate Word, Northern Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, UT Arlington, UTRGV and Utah Valley.
The UTEP Women’s Golf wrapped up the final round of action at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in third place on Sept. 29 at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
In the third and final round, the UTEP Miners shot 324 as a team and ended the event just two shots off the leader and eventual winner, Cal Poly (+61). The Miners posted a three-round total of 927 (304-299-324).
UTEP had two top 10 finishes individually with junior Valeria Mendizabal leading the way with a second-place finish. Mendizabal ended the third with a score of 221 (+5) after shooting 74, 72 and 75 over the three rounds.
Additionally, UTEP’s Audrey Haddad tied for seventh out of 63 golfers after she posted scores of 75, 75 and 80 for a three-round total of 230 (+14).
