UTEP Women’s Golf Opens Hawaii Tourney in Eighth

Kane‘ohe MCBH, O‘ahu — The UTEP women’s golf team is tied for eighth place through 18 holes at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday in Hawaii.

The Miners fired a round of 300 to start the 15-team tournament, which will conclude on Wednesday.

Texas A&M heads up the field (283), with Washington State and North Carolina State tied for second place (290).  A total of six ranked teams are participating in the event, including the no. 16 Aggies, no. 19 Oklahoma State and no. 21 Texas.

UTEP’s Abbie Anghelescu is tied for 22nd place; she carded a one-over-par 73 in round one.  June Ting and Alisa Rodriguez are tied for 33rd place (75), Lily Downs is tied for 58th place (77), and Sofia Castiello is tied for 69th place (78).
