LAS CRUCES,N.M. — The UTEP women’s golf team registered its second runner-up finish in three tournaments this season with a big third round at the NM State Aggie Invitational on Wednesday in Las Cruces.
The Miners shot a season-low 292 over the final 18 holes, the best round by any team in the three-day, 10-team event. Â That left UTEP with a total of 896 (297-307-292), just two strokes behind NM State which held on for the title (295-299-300-894).
UTEP’s Alisa Rodriguez, Lily Downs, June Ting and Crystal Wu all carded a one-over-par 73 on Wednesday.  Rodriguez tied for second place (71-76-73-220), Downs tied for fifth place (75-75-73-223), Ting tied for 11th place (75-80-73-228) and Wu tied for 28th place (77-86-73-236).
The Miners’ Sofia Castiello tied for 13th place (76-76-77-229) and Abbie Anghelescu, competing as an individual, landed in 37th place (80-84-78-242).
The individual winner was NMSU’s Kennedie Montoya (71-71-75-217).
UTEP also finished second at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial Sept. 12-13 in Springfield, Mo.
The Miners will compete at the Lady Red Wolf Classic Oct. 17-18 in Jonesboro, Ark.
