The UTEP women’s golf team is in the thick of the title chase with 18 holes complete at the NM State Aggie Invitational on Monday in Las Cruces.
The Miners shot 297 as a team, leaving them four strokes back of the leader UC Irvine (293) and two strokes behind second-place and tournament host NMSU (295).
The second round is set for Tuesday with the final round to be played on Wednesday.
UTEP’s Alisa Rodriguez shot a one-under-par 71 and is tied for fourth place. June Ting and Lily Downs are tied for 10th place (75), Sofia Castiello is tied for 16th place (76) and Crystal Wu is tied for 21st place (77).
The individual leader is Stephen F. Austin’s Jessica White (67).
UTEP also sent Abbie Anghelescu to compete as an individual. Â Anghelescu is tied for 38th place (80).
