UTEP Women’s Golf Posts Strong First Day at Maricopa

MARICOPA, AZ. – The UTEP women’s golf team put together two solid rounds on day one of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday in Maricopa.

The Miners shot rounds of 291 and 299 for an 11-over-par 590, leaving them in fifth place and 12 strokes behind tournament leader Sacramento State (279-287-566).

Two UTEP players are listed in the top-10 of the individual standings with two rounds in the books.

Lily Downs is tied for third place with a two-under-par 142 (70-72), two strokes behind NM State’s Pun Chanachai who heads up the field (75-65-140).  The Miners’ Valeria Mendizabal is tied for seventh place (70-73-143).

UTEP’s June Ting is tied for 47th place (75-76-151), Abbie Anghelescu is tied for 65th place (76-78-154) and Shannon O’Dwyer is tied for 103rd place (82-82-164).

The 20-team tournament concludes on Tuesday with 18 holes.
