UTEP Women’s Golf Takes Ninth in New Braunfels

NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS — The UTEP women’s golf team finished ninth at its first tournament of the spring, the Texas State Invitational in New Braunfels.

The Miners carded rounds of 304, 318 and 316, giving them a total of 938.

UTSA was champion of the 16-team event (295-303-303-901), with Texas State second (301-294-311-906) and Georgia Southern third (295-310-306-911).

Leading UTEP was June Ting, who tied for 42nd place with a 23-over-par 236 (75-80-81).

UTEP’s Lily Downs (75-82-80-237) and Abbie Anghelescu (84-78-75-237) tied for 45th place, Sofia Castiello tied for 51st place (79-79-80-238) and Alisa Rodriguez took 67th place (75-81-87-243).  Crystal Wu, competing as an individual, tied for 88th place (84-86-88-258).

The Miners will next compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational March 14-15 in Honolulu.
