UTEP Women’s Golf ends weekend at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Al. – The UTEP women’s golf team finished its first tournament of the 2021 fall season at the USA Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course on Monday afternoon.

The Miners carded rounds of 301, 305 and 291, finishing 33-over-par, 897. UTEP finished ahead of UTA (909) and Lamar (921).

Andrea Ostos (76, 75, 70) shot 4-over-par, 221, to finish as the top Miner (tied for 32 overall). Ostos shot 3-under-par on par 5 scoring.

Sophie Delfosse (226), Ines Dakiche (227), Naomi Ramirez (227) and Marta Romeu (229) rounded out the finishers for UTEP.

Sam Houston State ran away from the 17-team field, claiming the championship with rounds of 285, 274 and 274 to finish 31-under-par, 833. South Florida (852) placed second and Middle Tennessee (855) third.

Sam Houston State’s Zulaikah Nasser (68, 66, 67) won the weekend, shooting 15-under-par, 201. Her teammate Jennifer Herbst (69, 68, 66) finished second, penciling in a 13-under-par, 203.

The ladies will return to action on Sept. 13 and 14 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.
