UTEP women’s tennis coach Roberto Aspillaga announced the addition of Rebeca Calvillo and Sergio Acosta to the coaching staff on Tuesday. Calvillo will serve as a graduate assistant and Acosta will join the staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the Miners.
“ I am extremely excited to have Rebeca and Sergio join our coaching staff,” said Aspillaga. “Rebeca was one of the most awarded players in the history of UTEP tennis, and her competitive background will contribute immensely to the program.”
Calvillo completed her final season for the Miners in 2014 recording a 20-14 record at the No. 1 position, including a 13-9 mark in dual-match competition. She also teamed with Davina Meza to forge a 23-9 doubles record on the No. 1 court, including finishing 15-4 during dual-match play. The Durango, Mexico native finished her career as the Miners’ all-time leader in doubles wins (74) and a two-time All-Conference USA singles third team selection.
“I am pleased to also welcome Sergio Acosta to the coaching staff,” Aspillaga said. “Sergio is one of the best junior coaches in the area and his expertise will be of great use in player development for our program”
Acosta is an El Paso native and is the Head Junior Development Director for the El Paso Tennis Club.
UTEP will begin tournament action at the Midland Open held Sept. 17-19.
